Milltown
We premiered a brand-new map at a brand-new venue on this beautiful spring day! We had a great turnout of orienteers at Milltown State Park, a new map just outside Missoula.

Among the many familiar faces, we were excited to see eleven participants in GrizO's first-ever Orienteering Essentials class come out to this event and finish their courses!

There was some close competition on all the courses. The Beginner and Advanced Beginner courses belonged to the youth. On Beginner, siblings Selah and Philip Johnson took 1st and 2nd places, with fellow Missoula Youth Orienteering Program (MYOP) participants Grayson and Elon taking 3rd. On Advanced Beginner, Espen Chitty flew around the course in 24 minutes, with Kelli Fry in 2nd place, making a successful return from knee injury.

Another MYOP participant, Titus Johnson, won the Intermediate course, while Ted Fellman was 2nd and MYOP alum Mox Anderson 3rd. On Advanced, it was neck-and-neck between Colleen Bue and Allison Brown, with Colleen pulling out the win by 12 seconds! On Long Advanced, US National Team member and GrizO superstar Siri Christopherson edged out visitor from London Matthias Mahr to take the win.

We had a great group of volunteers making this event possible. Greg Balter created the base version of the map and worked hard to make sure the map was ready in time for the event. Boris Granovskiy field checked the map and set the courses. Allison Brown and Brady Brown directed the event. Matthias Mahr and Chris Caldwell helped put out controls. Matthias, Boris, Siri, Calvin Olson, Loy Koch, Alex Marks, and Tim Radle helped with control pickup. A shout-out also to the Darby, MT Job Corps team who helped with takedown!

Next up, come up to Flathead Lake on April 26 & 27 to explore Lone Pine and Lion Mountain for our Flathead Weekend!

We are also continuing are our series of Tuesday night orienteering training, so let us know if you'd like to join the mailing list for that.
